because i've had so many folks ask me about DPC, i've chosen to compile a page of resources for you to explore to better understand what it is.
"isn't direct primary care just concierge medicine?"
nope. it's affordable, accessible primary care, that can be customized according to your interests as a clinician and what your community needs. there are DPC doctors who only do vasectomies, and there are DPC doctors who do full spectrum primary care (including delivering babies!).
"but i can't serve the underserved with this model."
not true! often, working class folks benefit the most from this type of model for primary care because their expenses for care are predictable and transparent. high deductible insurance makes sense for folks who do not require frequent hospitalization and only need it for emergencies. (i'm also of the opinion that it's not normal to be hospitalized regularly in your lifetime; if you are doing your homework to take good care of your body, you are unlikely to need to go to the hospital except in case of emergency.) health sharing plans are also an attractive option for many DPC patients.
