POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
acupuncture treatments can put patients into altered states. patients need time to assimilate the effects of the treatment. we recommend the following precautions for the balance of the day, and to improve the duration and effects of the treatment. the metaphors in bold represent practical concepts, to help you remember the behaviors you should avoid so that you can get maximal benefit from your acupuncture treatment.
- NO SEX = no vigorous or depleting physical activity
- NO ALCOHOL = no intoxicants or other unnecessary drugs; you should take your regular medications as prescribed
- NO BAMBOO SHOOTS = no heavy meals that may obstruct the flow of energy; Dr Olivia advocates for patients to follow an ancestral diet (see more here)
- NO ICE CREAM = no COLD food or drink; these slow down circulation and interfere with assimilation of the treatment. fun fact - you can't get cold water in Chinese hospitals because this principle is taken so seriously in matters of illness and healing.
GENERALLY, go gently through the rest of your day.
